As we enter the final stretch in the midterm elections process we have a great deal of evidence suggesting Americans haven’t embraced the Transformational change the President is trying to bring about. Independents have fled the President and it now appears almost certain that the Republicans will win the House and have a very good shot at winning the Senate.

According to almost all the polls, the Obama administration agenda has simply gone too far in reach for the American people. Most of us understand the general need for government and the good purposes it serves, yet we also know the propensity for government waste and abuse, and when the Federal government is grown by 21% in the past 19 months during the Obama Administration it is no wonder why the American people are resoundingly rejecting this path. The bottom line here is there has never been one proven time in history that Keynesian Economic Theory (Massive Government Spending) has worked. There is no reasonable basis to believe you can spend you way out of a recession. On the other hand, we have many historical examples of how cutting marginal tax rates does indeed improve the economy. Furthermore, you only delay the inevitable, which we are now seeing and that is we must allow the bottom in a recession to actually occur. Artificially propping up the economy will only delay the inevitable. It is simply impossible to grow again until we hit bottom. Painful, yes, but absolutely necessary.

We must get the uncertainty out of the economy. Right now business owners are not spending and are sitting on the sidelines because of the massive amount of government intervention into the economy. We still do not know the full impact of the Health Care Bill, but we know it will cost our businesses more money. We do not know what impact the financial regualtion bill will have on our businesses but no one is planning on it decreasing our costs.

Lastly and most importantly we do not know what changes this administration is going to do to the tax code. All of these issues while important; from a business point of view; only add more uncertainty to the economy and marketplace, which in turn is not the best motivator for increasing jobs. In fact it does the exact opposite of what the govenment intends the interference to accomplish. Instead of hiring it encourages waiting. Business have to plan both short term and long term. When governement delays decision making businesses are forced to wait it out under the status quo. So pass the laws and let us know the damage or create gridlock and change nothing, if businesses know that gridlock is here, that would be received positively, because it brings a certain sense of stability. This is what all business owners seek. A stable positive environment allowing us to do what we do best, improve people’s lives.

Here is my suggestion to the Government when asked the question:

What can government do to increase jobs?

Nothing. Not one damn thing. I say get out of the way. Stop changing the laws every other day and stop creating massive uncertainty and stop writing 2000+ page bills that no one can read and takes years to turn out the regulations. Stop interfering in industry and the free market. Let bad businesses fail and stop heavily penalizing the successful ones. Stop alienating businesses as if they are all evil. We are not evil; we put people to work with our own money.

We were extremely pleased with the show last week. The traffic was far better than expected and the attendees were very interested in Quickscrews and what we have to offer. As a company entering its 24th year it is always nice to hear from our long time loyal users. We also received quite a bit of positive feedback from our E-Mail Blast Campaigns. Our weekly announcements are growing in popularity as we continue to provide the industry with up to date knowledge and have a little fun doing it. Please add yourself to the e-mail list and you too can be continually updated on what is happening at Quickscrews.

In an effort to jump start our own engine, we partnered with Uneeda Enterprizes, one of the leading manufacturers of quality sandpaper, in the world in hosting a customer appreciation party. Those who attended the affair all enjoyed a lot of good food drink and laughter. All in all a terrific event, I wish to thank , Phyllis from Uneeda and Rick from Quickscrews as they jointly worked together to pull off this excellant party.

Quickscrews is no longer in survivor mode and has re-entered growth mode. This can only be good for our customers as well as our prospects. We will begin this aggressive approach to marketing and selling almost immediately. Thank you for all your patience and understanding, yet now is the time to get down to the business of selling Quickscrews. I hope you will come along for the ride.

Look at the many different distinctions between Americans and you find that the only reason to Hyphenate is to separate. That is too break out a segment of American society and give them preferential treatment or worse subject them to Laws that only apply to a certain segment of Americans.

When I was a child I was taught that we in America were part of a melting pot of individuals. That once these individuals came to America and were legally assimilated into our society regardless of where they came from, what their religious or heritage background was, they simply were called Americans.

Today, it appears that politicians are doing their best to split up Americans and pit them against each other. Right now we have our President constantly telling us that the “Rich” have taken too much from society and must now pay for those excesses. I detest class warfare. It is flat out wrong for the President of the United States to pit one class of Americans against another. It is downright insulting. It is unstatesmenlike. It is not Presidential.

To make matters worse, the Media has also chosen sides and takes part in this continual pattern of pitting American vs American. Rich vs Poor, White vs Black, Jewish vs Christian, Religious vs Non Religious, the list goes on and on. We once were proud of our differences now we use them to destroy each other. This must come to an end. Lets hope November is our chance to change direction again, for the good of all Americans, not just those with favored status.

This month we look forward to our 11 th showing at IWF in Atlanta. Every other year since 1991 we have exhibited at this show. We have used this show in particular to meet with our East Coast and Mid West distributors as well as new potential customers from all over the country.

Many years ago we started out with a 10 x 10 booth and as recent as 2006 we had a 20 x 40 booth. Then the recession hit. Many companies in our industry were destroyed or simply went away. Business revenues plummeted as the recession took its hardest toll on the home construction and manufacturing sectors. Many of us were sent into a deep spiral that we are just beginning to climb our way out of. Quickscrews has seen these massive problems and has tried to stay ahead of them as much as possible. We are not immune to the slowdown.

This year we have gone back to our early beginnings and are showing in a modest 10 x 10 booth. Rick Gentry, myself and my oldest son Jared will be there to meet and greet all of you who choose to attend. Our booth number is 1522. Drop on by and say Hello.

July is our Founding month. I made my first sale on July 20th, 1987. 23 years later we are still in business. We have had many locations since that time where I worked out of my rented house in San Mateo, California. Jeez I think about those early years and begin to really appreciate all that has happened over the years.

Rick Gentry our current Executive VP , was the first employee hired almost 22 years ago. Next came Stu Zins our venerable jack of all trades, in the fall of 1989. For the next 20 years we have hired and then seen many a wonderful individual leave the company. Many have made Quickscrews a better company and yet they have moved on to better their own lives for themselves.

Today we are looking in the mirror and realize we look like the company we were over 10 years ago. Our sales have retracted to that point and so has our employee base. Rick, Stu and I handle all the sales functions. Stu also supports purchasing as the domestic buyer for our company. Rick is heavily involved in trade shows and working with the distributors sales staff. We all cross train and do whatever it takes to get the job done. We are fortunate that our two warehouse managers, Alex and Lewis have been with us many years and have quote successfully manged their respective warehouses with great skill and diplomacy. We appreciate all the long term Quickscrews employees, as we begin to enter a new era.

This summer is the first time that my 3 boys are working for the company. My eldest Jared who will be a junior at Cal Poly in SLO, is working in our marketing area redesigning the catalog and producing a year longs supply of creative e-mails to send out to all of you. My other two boys; Mike and Aaron are working in accounting and customer service respectively. Both of them are seniors in high school. New blood helps invigorate our company we welcome all of them.

As we move closer to the November elections we must be extremely leery of how each side will present “their” set of facts. Incumbents are in extremely precarious positions and they don’t seem to be aware of it on either side of the political aisle. Conservatives and Republicans appear to have the more motivated electorate which could bode well for changing the leadership in the House if not the Senate.

I caution all of us to be very selective in who we support. This midterm election could be one of the most important elections my generation has participated in. Why is this election important?

It is important because we are going to decide whether we agree with the current policies and continue down the path of larger more centralized government, or we are going to change direction and limit the growth of government. The status quo has got to change. We must remove the old guard who believe staying in power is their job. We must remove all those politicians who believe they know better how to spend our money than we do. We must remove all the politicians who believe government is the answer to all problems. Most importantly we must get back to governing FOR THE PEOPLE. If our elected officials continue to refuse to hear us, we must remove them from office, regardless of party.

Do not get misdirected by the politicians themselves. They are masters at this game, we must be prepared for an all out assault on reality as they get desperate in their attempt to stay in power. Think about it, when you are a member of congress you are part of a group that controls trillions of dollars. That kind of money brings great power. Politicians love power. Therefore they wish to control us by grabbing more and more of our dollars so they can disseminate and collect more power. Both parties are guilty of this and as long as one does it , the other has to.

Yet we do not have to fall prey to that failed logic. We can make a difference. We can change the landscape by voting for elected officials who will downsize the federal government. Vote for fiscal conservatives who will legitamately work on reducing the massive entitlement programs that will end up strangling our economy. Vote for candidates who realise that you simply cannot continue to spend more than you bring in. It is amazing to me that our federal government cannot learn the one thing we face everyday in our lives: That is, you cannot spend more money than you bring in.

Most importantly, dig up the facts from multiple sources. What you are going to hear cannot be trusted as we have seen so many times before, the facts are not always the facts, especially when the information comes from Politicians who wish to be reelected.

Just this past week , I could not believe that Nancy Pelosi said the following about Unemployment checks: “Unemployment is a one of the best stimulates of the economy.” She continued with ” economists say that unemployment benefits directly positively stimulate the economy.” This has got to be one of the most concocted statements I have ever heard from anyone in Congress, let alone the 3rd most powerful person in Washington. This is really scary. It is bad enough that we have an administration that has the least amount of professional business experience in not only the White House Staff, but in the cabinet as well. There is not one person who has direct business experience in either the Obama Cabinet or the Obama Administration; so is it no wonder that the administration has no clue on how to create jobs?

I have been extremely busy as it appears the business cycle may be returning to some form of normal. Meanwhile a lot has gone on in the past month so I wanted to throw out some random thoughts and see what you folks might have to say. Please join in, we appreciate all comments.

Random Thought#1:

Is anyone surprised that the Health and Human Services reported recently that the recently passed Heath Bill will not be Budget Neutral and will add to the deficit? Suuuuuuure…I certainly believed that we could add 32 million people to our Health system and the costs would go down..Well actually NOT.

Random Thought#2:

Does anyone else think it odd that Chris Dodd has been working on a financial reform bill for almost a year, yet we are just starting to hear from Congress as to how and why the financial collapse occurred? Shouldn’t we understand what created the biggest financial problem of our generation before we redesign and change the whole system?

Random Thought#3:

Who can explain to me why financial reform doesn’t include what we now know as the biggest cause of the mortgage meltdown: Fannie and Freddie Mac. Currently the taxpayers have funded these two Nationalized Companies to the tune of $161 Billion and climbing. Yet nary a mention or any regulation whatsoever included in THE LARGEST FINANCIAL REFORM SINCE THE 1930′s.

Random Thought#4

Can someone please explain to me why I am a racist if I want our Border’s secured from illegal immigration? This past two weeks watching the behavior of the politicians convinces me that neither Republicans or Democrats will ever get serious about securing the border. I understand this to be a complex issue, but if we secured the border 100% and proved it to the American people, then I am convinced we can find a fair and humane way to deal with the 12-15 million people who entered our country illegally. Comprehensive reform is a sham. We tried it under Reagan and it did not work. Forget about it, secure the border first, then we can talk about what to do with the people who are here.

It is not much, but we are starting to see improvement in the number of new orders and the size of the orders. We will continue to monitor closely as we need to make sure that we can meet the needs of our customers.

The downturn on the economy has been brutal. We reorganized almost 15 months ago and are still feeling the affects of massive layoffs and salary reductions. Morale at the Company hit an all time low last March, when the drag of the economy and the lack of business created a model of fear and anguish. I do not blame the employees as they were all wondering “Am I next to go?” Obviously not conducive to a positive business environment. Needless to say we needed to use all our of energy and skills to move forward. I am Proud of every single employee at Quickscrews. Each of them takes personal pride in being part of an organization that strives to be the best in the industry.

If in fact we have reached bottom, then so be it, and it is not a minute too soon. After 15 consecutive months of flat or no growth, it would be nice to see if we can get some traction on continued improvement.

We hope all of you are starting to see the same.

This online store was designed under the basis that many users both inside and outside the industry now exclusively buy on the internet. We were interested in reaching out to these users while at the same time ensuring that we would not disrupt our current customer base.

We determined that the best way to effectively do that would be to offer only our packaged line of products to the Retail users. We are excited that this project has been finished and now will wait to see if you enjoy the store. Please visit our online retail store and let us know your thoughts. Here are a few ways you can help us by answering the following questions:

1) Is it user friendly?

2) Were you able to find what you were looking for?

3) What could we do to improve the site?
