Our esteemed sales team from left to right: Rick Gentry, Executive VP of Sales, Chuck Lilly Midwest Regional Sales Manager, Greg Wiener CEO, Stuart Zins Sales Consultant.

As we begin our 21st year in business, we are very proud of how we have faced the extremely difficult challanges of the past 12 months. Late last year we completed the successfull reuniting of our corporate headquarters and west coast warehouse operations. Having started this company 20 years ago in my garage, I certainly take great pride in the many accomplishments and strides we have made in the past two decades. Quickscrews has been fortunate to have an extremely loyal customer base since our inception and it is a true testament to our customers and their loyalty that we have maintained consistent growth for 19 of our 20 years in business.

Our employees have been loyal as well. We have many employees who have been with the company for over 10 years. This loyalty is why we can and do offer a consistent level of service and performance unmatched in the fastener industry. We strive to be the best and most consistent supplier in our field and our field is selling screws. We sell screws. Last year alone we sold over 1.5 billion screws, which is in excess of 7 million pounds shipped nationwide! We thank all those customers who purchased, resold and ultimately used Quickscrews. We will continue to be innovative, creative and substantially superior to anyone in our market. I take this as a personal challenge and will do my best to answer the call.

Respectfully,

Greg Wiener, CEO, Quickscrews International

During March of 2008 I was traveling in Taiwan with my eldest son Jared. We went to visit all of our suppliers and their subcontractors. The purpose of the trip was to give some first hand knowledge to my son on how a screw is made. Jared is a graduating senior in high school and says one day he would like to run Quickscrews. I felt it important to expose him to our trading partners and what we do from the manufacturing point of view. It seems to reason that if someone wants to run a Screw company they should possess the knowledge of how their product is made.

Interestingly enough it has been 3 years since I was in Taiwan, spending two of the last three visiting China, I had noticed a dramatic change in the Taiwan manufacturing industry, especially fasteners. Taiwan seemed to have lost a considerable amount of manufacturing whom relocated to China for presumed lower costs of manufacturing. The Chinese were offering a 15% rebate to any manufacturer who came to China as well as a stable financial currency and low labor costs. Now two years later the impact on the Taiwanese economy can be seen by the lighter amount of traffic and noticeably empty manufacturing buildings especially in Gangshan where there were a considerable amount of screw related industries that were simply no longer there.

Meanwhile, production costs in China have risen dramatically, the government has removed the manufacturing incentive rebate and increased the costs of labor considerably. The price advantage originally conceived in the move to China is now being offset by the fact that labor and raw materials as well as transportation within China have eliminated any cost advantages to moving there from Taiwan three years ago.

We will continue to monitor the steel and oil situation closely. Look for further updates.

Respectfully, Greg Wiener

Over the past 20 years we have seen the development of an entire industry. 20 years ago the choices for screws for cabinet and furniture makers was extremely limited. You were either buying a tapping screw or a drywall screw, neither of which were intended for use in wood. Although those types of screws worked the products themselves were not intended or designed for those woodworking applications. As the woodworking industry evolved so did the use of varied and different materials. The introduction and expansion of man made materials such as MDF and particle board, along with the expansion of a large variety of soft and hardwoods, required different thinking when it came to fastening products for the industry. The fasteners on the marketplace had to change. The introduction of heat treated coarse threaded screws was a major improvement. Woodworkers would finally be introduced to a quality product line that met their demanding needs in the area of joint fastening and cabinet construction. The next evolution surrounded the need to insure that all hardware being used would or could have an appropriate fastener to attach to again a wide variety of man made and wood species. Another difficulty that still remains today is the fact that hardware manufacturers have not standardized the holes in hardware which have identical purposes, thus the need for a larger selection with multiple head styles of screws.
